Second-period wrap: Hawks 1, Senators 1

The Chicago Blackhawks and Ottawa Senators are tied 1-1 after the second period at the United Center.

Both teams got on the board in the middle 20 minutes, with Ottawa striking first on a power play moments into the second period. The Hawks’ penalty killing has been in a major slump and once again the unit looked out of position as Senators’ captain Daniel Alfredsson found a clear shooting lane for the goal. The Dallas Stars were 3-for-3 on the power play on Wednesday night and Ottawa is 1-for-1 so far.

The Hawks responded when Patrick Sharp redirected a Brian Campbell shot from the point. It was Sharp’s team-leading 24th goal of the year.

After a quick start by the Senators, the game has evened up and the Hawks will yet again try to get points out of a third-period tie.
