First period wrap: Lightning 2, Hawks 1

TAMPA BAY -- The Chicago Blackhawks trail the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-1 after the first period at the St. Pete Times Forum.

The Lightning got on the board first with a Steven Stamkos goal midway through the period. The league’s leading scorer tallied his 42nd of the season after making a nice move to the middle of the ice and then firing one past Corey Crawford.

The Hawks countered with a top-line goal of their own when Jonathan Toews and Patrick sharp assisted Patrick Kane on his 23rd of the season. He also had the puck in the middle of the ice sending a wrist shot by goalie Dwayne Roloson.

For the second night in a row, though, the opposition scored in the final seconds as Martin St. Louis grabbed a loose puck which three Hawks were hovering around. St. Louis stick-handled one past Crawford as the Lightning re-took the lead with just 15 seconds remaining in the period.
