Second period wrap: Stars 3, Hawks 0

DALLAS -- The Chicago Blackhawks trail the Dallas Stars 3-0 after two periods at American Airlines Center.

As good as the Hawks five goal second period was on Monday against San Jose, that’s how bad they played in the middle 20 minutes against the Stars.

The Hawks gave up two goals while Duncan Keith took a bad penalty to negate a four minute power play.

Brent Seabrook’s blocked shot turned into a 2-on-1 for the Stars with Jamie Benn finishing the scoring chance just 1:01 into the period. A couple of minutes later another scoring opportunity in the Hawks’ zone resulted in a Brendan Morrow goal, ending goalie Corey Crawford’s night. Crawford gave up three goals on 10 shots.

Keith was high-sticked midway through the period as Tomas Vincour was given a double-minor. But moments into the four minute man advantage, Keith took a run at Benn behind the Hawks’ net and was called for charging.

Seabrook has taken two minor penalties and is minus-2 through 40 minutes. Keith, Patrick Sharp, Marian Hossa, and Michael Frolik are minus-2 as well.

Dallas is 19-0-3 when leading after two periods this season.
