Second period wrap: Hawks 3, Blues 2

The Chicago Blackhawks lead the St. Louis Blues 3-2 after two periods at the United Center.

The Hawks needed a break to save their season and they may have gotten one in the middle 20 minutes. Down 2-0, Marian Hossa scored on a rebound of a Nick Leddy shot but a lengthy review of the play ensued.

Hossa had kicked the puck to the goal line but may have touched it with his stick at the last second. Additionally, replays weren’t conclusive if the puck fully crossed the line. The call on the ice was a good goal and that ultimately might be what officials decided to stay with -- no matter which way it had been ruled.

The crowd came alive after the review and the Hawks scored twice more off the momentum. Tomas Kopecky tallied from the slot after a nice feed from Chris Campoli from behind the Blues’ net. Later, Leddy scored with another accurate shot through traffic.

St. Louis scored a power play goal in the opening minute of the period after a poor line change but the Hawks dominated after that outshooting the Blues 20-6 for the period and 28-10 for the game.
