Blackhawks make first cuts, trim five

The Chicago Blackhawks made their first round of cuts Monday by sending five players back to their junior clubs.

Forwards Mirko Hoefflin and Ludvig Rensfeldt and goaltenders Macmillan Carruth, Johan Mattsson and Kent Simpson were trimmed from the roster.

The Hawks' training camp roster now stands at 54 active players, which includes 34 forwards, 16 defensemen and four goaltenders.
