First-period wrap: Hawks 1, Bruins 0

CHICAGO -- The Chicago Blackhawks lead the Boston Bruins 1-0 after the first period at the United Center.

There was a great pace to the first period; both teams had multiple scoring chances but both goalies were up to the task, until Bryan Bickell broke through with his first goal of the year late in the period.

Bickell stepped into a passing lane at center ice and took the puck right up the middle, putting it through goalie Tim Thomas’ legs. Dave Bolland helped cause the turnover.

Thomas was under siege for much of the period. He stopped Patrick Kane on several good looks including a spin-o-rama move and shot Thomas gobbled up. Corey Crawford was also on top of his game stopping all 13 shots by the Bruins. The Hawks had 13 shots on goal as well.
