Hawks' Kostka to miss 4-6 weeks

Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Michael Kostka will miss four to six weeks due to an undisclosed lower-body injury, the team announced on Wednesday.

Kostka's injury occurred during practice on Tuesday. He will not require surgery.

Kostka had one goal and a plus-1 rating in two games this season. He had been a healthy scratch for six of the Blackhawks' first eight games. He scored his first career NHL goal against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday.

Kostka signed a one-year deal with the Blackhawks in July and earned a roster spot during training camp. He played in the Maple Leafs organization last season.

Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville has seven other defensemen on the roster. He had been rotating Kostka, Sheldon Brookbank and Michal Rozsival as the team's sixth defensemen throughout this season.
