Blackhawks' Mills could miss weeks with injury

CHICAGO – Chicago Blackhawks forward Brad Mills could miss multiple weeks due to a lower-body injury, coach Joel Quenneville said Wednesday.

Mills, who missed the Blackhawks’ last two games, was previously considered day-to-day. He was recalled from the Rockford IceHogs on Oct. 25 and had zero points, a minus-1 rating and averaged 10:20 of ice time in three games with the Blackhawks.

“Brad Mills, right now I don’t know the extent of it, but he could be out for a while,” Quenneville said Wednesday after the team’s morning skate. “He had two solid games and a nice presence there, and that line was responsible and gave up a presence physically. He was killing penalties, could take faceoffs. We’re still looking for that fit there.”

When asked if Mills might miss multiple weeks due to the injury, Quenneville responded that the forward “could.”

Quenneville also said forward Michal Handzus, who has an upper-body injury, was skating by himself but was not ready to practice with the team. Handzus has not played since Oct. 24.
