Hawks' Shaw out for Game 5, progressing

CHICAGO -- Chicago Blackhawks forward Andrew Shaw will not play against the Minnesota Wild in Game 5 of their Western Conference second-round series Sunday due to a lower-body injury, Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said Saturday.

Shaw will miss a fourth consecutive game due to the injury. Quenneville said Shaw was improving.

“He’s progressing,” Quenneville said at the United Center on Saturday. “I think he felt better the last couple of days. It was an encouraging sign.”

Shaw was injured after taking a hit from Wild defenseman Clayton Stoner in the first period during Game 1 on May 2. Shaw was hit into the boards and fell to the ice. He limped off the ice and went to the dressing room. He did not return for the remainder of the game.

Shaw has two goals, two assists, a zero rating and has averaged 15:54 of ice time in seven playoff games this season. He had 20 goals, 19 assists and a plus-12 rating in 80 regular-season games.

The Blackhawks and Wild are tied 2-2 in the series. Game 5 is in Chicago on Sunday.
