Blackhawks reduce roster to 36 players

The Chicago Blackhawks assigned forwards Matt Carey and Phillip Danault and defenseman Stephen Johns to the AHL’s Rockford IceHogs and released defenseman Cam Barker following their preseason game Friday.

The Blackhawks’ active roster now includes 36 players, which includes 21 forwards, 11 defensemen and four goaltenders. The Blackhawks previously assigned six players to the IceHogs on Friday afternoon.

The Blackhawks have three remaining preseason games before beginning the regular season Oct. 9 in Dallas. They next play on the road against the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday.
