Source: RFA Frolik to attend fan convention

Restricted free agent forward Michael Frolik will be at the Chicago Blackhawks Convention this weekend, according to a source, even though he doesn’t have a contract with the team yet.

Talks between Frolik and the Hawks are on-going and his appearance at the convention, which runs Friday through Sunday at the Hilton Chicago, doesn’t mean a deal is imminent but certainly is a sign negotiations aren’t acrimonious.

On their website, the Hawks do not list him as attending.

Many current players such as Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane and Patrick Sharp will be in attendance along with many former Hawks, including Bobby Hull, Stan Mikita, Adam Creighton and Dave Manson.

The sold-out convention consists of question and answer sessions with players, X’s and O’s strategy clinics with the coaches, and live and silent auctions of Hawks’ memorabilia and game-used equipment.

It is uncertain if the Hawks’ other restricted free agent, Chris Campoli, will be in attendance. His arbitration date is Aug. 3 and the sides are negotiating as well.

Last summer, goalie Antti Niemi did not attend but his arbitration hearing was the same weekend as the convention. He subsequently left the team when the Hawks walked away from an arbiter’s decision.
