Thibodeau texts congrats to Quenneville

CHICAGO -- Chicago Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said Friday he has received congratulatory text messages from Chicago Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau throughout the Stanley Cup playoffs.

"Tom texted the other day," Quenneville said after Friday's practice at the United Center. "It was nice to hear from him. … He was happy for us. He's texted a couple times. I told him he was doing a nice job shoveling the other day (at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Bulls practice facility)."

Thibodeau, a hockey fan who grew up in Connecticut, expressed his respect for Quenneville to ESPNChicago.com on Thursday.

"Quenneville, and I'm a little biased because he was a Hartford Whaler, to me is a great coach, and he's proven that," Thibodeau said.

Quenneville said he's also had the opportunity to meet some of Chicago's other past and present coaches.

"I met Mike (Ditka) a few times in town," Quenneville said. "I met the (White) Sox coach (Robin Ventura). I haven't seen the new Cubs coach [Dale Sveum] and new Bears coach (Marc Trestman). I was familiar with (former Bears offensive coordinator) Mike Tice as well. We've been texting as well. It's nice knowing a few guys. Tom, we bump into each other here at the United Center a little bit."

Quenneville said he's enjoyed his time in Chicago since being named the Blackhawks coach in 2008.

"We love it here in Chicago, be it the family or being part of a special organization, special place to work as a player or as a coach," Quenneville said. "It's a great sports city. It's a great environment. People are very passionate about their teams and sports as well. We love all the aspects of being part of the Chicago sports scene and how fortunate we are to be a part of this place here in Chicago and be a part of the Blackhawk family as well.

"You can just tell in the building from the national anthem throughout the game there's something special going on here. I'm just happy to be a part of it. I was very fortunate to come here at a great time when the team was taking off. I've been very happy since."
