CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- Prospect senior guard Mike LaTullip committed to Illinois as a preferred walk-on during his official visit on Saturday.
“I felt like it was the best fit for me academically and athletically,” LaTullip said. “I was blessed to have that opportunity from Illinois.”
LaTullip could have gone to a school on scholarship and had more of a guarantee for playing time, but he said that’s not his nature.
“It’s just the type of person I am,” said LaTullip, who played club basketball with Full Package Athletics. “I’m a hard worker and extremely competitive. I want to go out and work as hard as I can to earn it. They said nothing is guaranteed, but at the same time they know I can play.”
LaTullip saw himself as someone who could knock down shots off screens in Illinois’ motion offense. Just last week, he had 46 points and made 10 3-pointers in the Full Package Fall Exposure League.
Illinois has two commitments for the Class of 2012. Crete-Monee point guard Michael Orris also recently committed to the Illini.
