Source: Josh Crittle transferring to UIC

Cental Florida senior forward Josh Crittle is transferring to Illinois-Chicago, according to a source familiar with the situation.

Crittle is eligible to play this season at UIC because the NCAA gave Central Florida’s seniors the option to transfer after the Knights’ football and basketball programs received sanctions for major recruiting violations. He was also being recruited by DePaul.

Crittle, who is 6-9 and 260 pounds, played his first two years at Oregon and transferred to Central Florida as a junior. He sat out the 2010-11 season and averaged 4.7 points and 2.9 rebounds in 31 games, including 25 starts, last season.

Crittle is from Bellwood, Ill. and starred at Hales Franciscan High School in Chicago.

UIC also recently added former Purdue guard Kelsey Barlow to its roster. Barlow will sit out the 2012-13 season after transferring.

The Flames went 8-22 overall and 3-15 in the Horizon League last season. UIC coach Howard Moore is entering his third season with UIC.
