Thomas Hamilton Jr. commits to DePaul

IMG Academy senior center Thomas Hamilton Jr., a Chicago native, has committed to DePaul, according to his club coach.

Hamilton, who is 6-foot-8 and 280 pounds, chose the Blue Demons over offers from Boston College, Bradley, Miami and Oklahoma State, among others, according to Mac Irvin Fire club coach Mike Irvin.

Hamilton, who is the son of former Chicago King High School star Thomas Hamilton, attended Whitney Young High School in Chicago for three years and transferred to IMG Academy in Florida for his final year.

"Tommy's a big-time player," Irvin said. "This is definitely a big recruit for DePaul. [DePaul assistant coach] Billy Garrett did a great job of recruiting Tommy. Billy got in there and did a heck of a job. Tommy had a lot of schools, and in the end he chose DePaul."

Hamilton is the fifth recruit in DePaul's Class of 2013. He joins Morgan Park (Chicago) senior point guard Billy Garrett Jr., who is ranked No. 90 in ESPN's Class of 2013, South Plains College (Texas) sophomore center Forrest Robinson, Citrus Junior College (Calif.) sophomore power forward Greg Sequele and Oak Hill Academy (Va.) senior guard R.J. Curington.
