Peoria Manual senior guard Jeff White committed to Loyola on Friday.
White, a 6-1, 175-pound combo guard, chose the Ramblers over Valparaiso.
“I was surprised about Loyola,” White said. “I never had heard from them [before coach Porter Moser was hired.] It’s in Chicago. It’s on the lake and the beach. I think we got great players coming in, and we can turn the program around.”
White’s travel coach, Illinois Wolves coach Mike Mullins, believed White and Cully Payne, who is sitting out this season after transferring from Iowa, would complement each other in the Ramblers’ backcourt.
“I think Jeff comes from the tradition of Peoria guards with a lot of toughness and grit,” Mullins said. “He’s a rugged defender. There’s a little bit of junkyard dog in him. He can certainly put points on the board.
“Cully, he’s proven he’s a tremendous player. He plays well with or without the ball. They’re different style players.”
