Lineup: Cubs sit LaHair vs. lefty again

MINNEAPOLIS -- One day after collecting two hits in his first game against the Minnesota Twins, the Cubs gave Bryan LaHair a rest against a left-handed starter.

So while lefty hitters David DeJesus and Ian Stewart got the nod in the Cubs’ lineup Saturday, LaHair will watch the early action against the Twins’ Scott Diamond while waiting for an opportunity to pinch hit.

After a dry spell during the latter half of May, LaHair is starting to heat up again. He batted .385 (10-for-26) over a recent seven-game hitting streak that was snapped Wednesday in Milwaukee. His two hits Friday night gave him a .318 batting average (7-for-22) on the road trip with two home runs and three RBIs.

DeJesus is batting .277 overall, but just .179 in a limited opportunity against left-handed pitching. Stewart is batting just .201 overall with five home runs and 17 RBIs, but is batting just .182 against left-handers in 32 at-bats with no home runs and two RBIs.

It isn’t as if LaHair is getting it done against left-handers either. He is batting just .111 against them in 27 at-bats, but does have a home run with five RBIs.

Saturday’s complete lineup:

Reed Johnson, LF

Starlin Castro, SS

DeJesus, RF

Alfonso Soriano, DH
