Rizzo to bat third vs. Mets in debut

The Anthony Rizzo era begins with the long-awaited prospect batting third in the Chicago Cubs' lineup against the New York Mets on Tuesday at Wrigley Field.

The 22-year-old first baseman, who will wear No. 44, bumps shortstop Starlin Castro from the third spot to No. 2 in the order. It's an ambitious spot in the lineup to debut a career .141 hitter (Rizzo played 49 games with the San Diego Padres last season), but Rizzo comes to Wrigley Field on the heels of a dominating season in the Pacific Coast League where he batted .342 with 23 home runs and 62 RBIs at Triple-A Iowa.

"I’m here to stay," Rizzo said in his introductory press conference. "I’m going to work hard every day, learn, get better, go through the ups and downs ... the nicks and bruises."

Here is the rest of the Cubs lineup against Mets right-hander Dillon Gee:

1. David DeJesus, CF

2. Castro, SS

3. Rizzo, 1B

4. Alfonso Soriano, LF

5. Bryan LaHair, RF

6. Luis Valbuena, 3B

7. Darwin Barney, 2B
