Silva may miss next start

LOS ANGELES -- Manager Lou Piniella said that Cubs right-hander Carlos Silva may miss his start on Sunday due to continuous problems with an upper right calf strain.

Rookie righthander Mitch Atkins, recently recalled from Triple-A Iowa, was expected to start Sunday if Silva couldn't go. But after Atkins threw 1 1/3 innings in Friday's 9-7 loss to the Dodgers, Piniella said Atkins was no longer an option.

Piniella said that he would get together with general manager Jim Hendry to decide what pitcher to bring up from the minor leagues if they’re faced with that situation.
