CHICAGO -- Chicago Cubs pitchers and catchers will report on Feb. 10 for spring training, the team announced on Tuesday. It’s one of the earliest report times in team history due to the World Baseball Classic which runs March 2-19.
Exhibition games begin on Feb. 23 against the Los Angeles Angels while the Houston Astros were added to the spring training schedule, hosting the Cubs on March 29 and 30. The Astros are moving to the American League so it will be the only visit to Houston by the Cubs next year. The game on March 29 will start at 7:05 p.m. while Saturday’s contest will begin at 1:05 p.m. The Cubs open the regular season on April 1 in Pittsburgh.
Minor league staff: The Cubs also announced their minor league staff and coordinators for the 2013 season. They’ll have five new managers, including Marty Pevey, who takes over at Triple-A Iowa. Pevey was Chicago’s minor league catching coordinator for the last three seasons.
The Cubs will employ new hitting coaches at every level in the minors except Single-A Boise, which retains former Cub Bill Buckner.
