Cubs activate Baker for Sunday start

CHICAGO -- The Chicago Cubs activated pitcher Scott Baker from the 60-day disabled list prior to Sunday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers. Baker, who has been rehabbing from Tommy John surgery for much of the last two seasons, will make his first start since September 24, 2011 on Sunday.

To make room for Baker on the 40-man roster, the Cubs designated third baseman Cody Ransom for assignment. The Cubs picked up Ransom off the waivers from the San Diego Padres earlier in the season and he spent much of the season as the team's third baseman when facing left-handed starters. Ransom hit .203/.304/.449 with nine home runs in 57 games for the Cubs.
