Saturday: Travis Wood (4-4, 4.61) vs. TBD, 9:10 p.m. CT
Renteria homecoming: Cubs manager Rick Renteria was the bench coach for the Padres over the past two seasons and remains close to many on their coaching staff. He also lives in the San Diego area in the offseason but won't make the hour commute each way during the series. He'll stay at the team hotel instead.
"For me, it's another road trip," Renteria said before leaving Chicago. "I have some really good friends there that I'll be happy to see for a quick moment to say hello. And then it's on. It's the Cubs and the Padres."
Hammel OK: The Cubs say Hammel will make his start on Sunday after taking a ball off his pitching wrist on Tuesday night. The bruise swelled up on him, but he managed to make it through 5 2/3 innings and earn a victory over the Yankees. After the game his hand displayed a golf ball size welt. He hopes it will be gone by Sunday.
Who's Hot: Mike Olt isn't just hitting home runs anymore. Over the past two games he's driven in four runs on sacrifice flies, a bases-loaded walk and a base hit through a drawn in infield. His nine home runs and 24 RBIs lead the team. Fellow youngster Junior Lake has been on a tear, going 7-for-19 on the recent homestand.
