Torrealba signed to minor league contract

PITTSBURGH -- The Chicago Cubs signed catcher Yorvit Torrealba to a minor league contract, the team announced Thursday.

Torrealba, 35, played last season for the Colorado Rockies, for whom he hit .240 in 61 games. He’s a 13-year veteran who will provide depth while the Cubs' starting catcher, Welington Castillo, is on the disabled list with a rib-cage issue.

Torrealba will report to the team’s spring training facility in Mesa, Arizona, before joining a minor league team. He was in spring training with the Los Angeles Angels before opting out of his contract.
