The 29-year-old Baxter is a five-year veteran, having appeared in 198 career games. He can play any of the three outfield positions and was hitting .290 at Triple-A Iowa before being called up. He takes Coke's place on the 40-man roster.
The Cubs now have a lefty/righty reserve situation in the outfield after going the first six weeks of the season with just one backup. The trade of Castillo has given them the look of a more traditional roster, though they're still carrying 13 pitchers for the time being. Wada will start Wednesday's game against the Padres.
