Cubs' David Ross acitvated; Matt Szczur, Tommy La Stella optioned to Triple-A

CHICAGO -- The Cubs activated catcher David Ross from the bereavement list on Tuesday while optioning outfielder Matt Szczur to Triple-A Iowa.

The Cubs also activated infielder Tommy La Stella from the 60-day disabled list and optioned him to Triple-A where he’s been rehabbing an oblique injury. He’s missed all but two games this season.

“I’m really eager for him [La Stella] to get back up here but right now we’re doing OK,” manager Joe Maddon said. “Just get ready. When the opportunity shows up be ready for it.”

La Stella is 9-for-26 (.250) in 10 games for Iowa as the Cubs' 40-man roster is now at 40 again. Ross missed two games after the passing of his grandmother.
