Quick take: Cardinals 6, Cubs 4

CHICAGO -- A quick look at the Chicago Cubs' 6-4 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday night at Wrigley Field.

The good: The Cubs backed starting pitcher Carlos Zambrano with a 13-hit attack. Zambrano kept his team in the game, going seven innings and allowing four runs.

The bad: All 13 hits were singles and the Cubs left 11 men on base. Poor execution on cutoff plays led to the fifth and sixth Cardinals runs.

Beyond the box score: Geovany Soto may go on the disabled list with a left groin strain. Cubs manager Mike Quade said he would name a starting pitcher for Saturday night’s game against the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday.

Up next: The Cubs’ Matt Garza (1-4) faces the Cardinals’ Jaime Garcia (4-0) at Wrigley Field on Wednesday at 7 CT.
