Looking for relief, Cubs recall Coleman

The Chicago Cubs recalled right-handed pitcher Casey Coleman from Triple-A Iowa on Saturday.

To make room for Coleman the Cubs designated outfielder Brad Snyder for assignment. Opposing teams now have 10 days to put in a claim on Snyder. If he’s not claimed, the Cubs can re-assign him to Triple-A.

This will be Coleman’s second stint in Chicago this season. Manager Mike Quade plans to use Coleman as a long reliever the next two days.

Coleman is 2-4 with a 7.25 ERA in nine previous games with the Cubs this season. He was 1-0 with a 2.31 ERA in two starts at Iowa.

Snyder had one hit in eight games with the Cubs this season. He was hitting .342 with seven homers and 29 RBIs for the Iowa Cubs.
