CHICAGO -- Here's a quick look at the Cubs' 5-2 win over the Giants in 13 innings on Thursday.
How it happened: What looked like a nice matchup between right-handers Carlos Zambrano and San Francisco's Matt Cain turned into a pitching duel between Cain and emergency Cubs reliever Marcos Mateo. Zambrano left the game with a bad back after giving up a bloop RBI single in the 2nd inning. Mateo pitched out of that jam and threw four more shutout innings, giving up just two hits and striking out six, while keeping the North Siders in the game. Aramis Ramirez tied the game in the bottom of the ninth with a home run and Pablo Sandoval homered in the 13th. Darwin Barney's RBI single tied it in the 13th and Geovany Soto won it with a three-run home run.
What it means: After dropping a split doubleheader on Tuesday, the Cubs split the series with two last-at-bat wins.
Outside the box:Right-hander Kerry Wood told ESPNChicago.com before the game that he has a no trade clause in his contract that he most likely will invoke if asked about a trade opportunity. Wood also told ESPN 1000's Waddle & Silvy Show that he's staying with the Cubs.
