There will be five players representing Chicago during the World Cup and Pan-American Games.
Top Chicago Cubs prospects Brett Jackson and Jeff Beliveau will join White Sox minor leaguers Jordan Danks, Andrew Garcia and Justin Cassel on Team USA.
The squad will compete in the IBAF World Cup in Panama City from Oct. 2-15 and during the Pan Am Games in Guadalajara from Oct. 20-25.
The Cubs decided instead of adding Jackson to the 40-man roster during September call-ups, it would be a valuable experience for him to compete on Team USA. Only players not on the 40-man roster can compete for Team USA. Jackson will be added to the 40-man roster during the offseason and and will contend for a position with the Cubs during spring training.
Ernie Young will manage the team. White Sox minor league pitching coordinator Kirk Champion will be the pitching coach. Former Cubs first baseman Leon Durham will be the hitting instructor.
