Ian Stewart expected to play on Monday

MESA, Ariz. -- Ian Stewart, who has been out since Friday with a tight right quadriceps muscle, is expected to return to the Chicago Cubs lineup Monday.

Stewart, the Cubs’ starting third baseman, was plagued by injuries last season with the Colorado Rockies. A right hamstring issue and a left wrist contusion landed him not only on the disabled list twice but played a big role in getting him shipped back to the minor leagues.

Stewart played in just 48 games with the Rockies last season and did not hit a home run.

Second baseman Darwin Barney, who has also been out since Friday with a strain in his left side, could also return Monday. He has been on the mend with the club in Las Vegas.
