Garza went four innings in his final tuneup, throwing 51 pitches. He added a handful of pitches in the bullpen following his outing.
The right-hander, who will start in the second game of the season April 7 against the Washington Nationals at Wrigley Field, gave up two hits with no walks and six strikeouts.
Garza was steady all spring but didn’t have a dominating outing. Before Sunday he had given up at least two runs every time out, although in one of those outings all his runs allowed were unearned.
His worst outing came March 11 against the Los Angeles Dodgers when he gave up four runs on three hits with two walks in 1 1/3 innings. In his two outings prior to Sunday's appearance he had walked three batters in each of them.
