CHICAGO -- Here's a quick look at the Cubs' loss to the White Sox in the rubber match of their series at US Cellular Field.
How it happened: Coming off the DL, right-hander Jake Peavy went 5 1/3 innings and gave up three runs on eight hits. The Cubs knocked Peavy out in the sixth inning, scoring two runs, which included Carlos Pena’s 14th homer. Starlin Castro grounded out on the first pitch to end the inning with the bases loaded.
What it means: The Cubs are back to their losing ways, dropping their second consecutive series to an American League opponent. They have yet to win more than two consecutive games at any point this season.
Outside the box: Reliever Chris Carpenter hit 100 mph on the US Cellular radar gun with two consecutive pitches to Carlos Quentin in the White Sox’s sixth inning. Second baseman Darwin Barney will head to Triple-A Iowa to try to work his way back to the Cubs. Barney can come off the DL June 29.
