GLENDALE, Ariz. -- A crowded major-league camp required some early cuts as the Chicago Cubs started the process of moving toward a 25-man Opening Day roster.
Four players, none of them surprises, were reassigned to minor-league camp on Friday. Right-handers Marco Carrillo and Trey McNutt were reassigned, as well as infielder Jonathan Mota and outfielder Jae-Hoon Ha.
The Cubs opened camp with 63 players, lost Chris Carpenter to the Red Sox as compensation for adding Theo Epstein over the winter, and then added catcher Micah Gibbs. The four moves Friday take the camp roster down to 59 players.
