The Chicago Fire announced Wednesday that they will face the San Jose Earthquakes on May 24 in a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup play-in match at Buck Shaw Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. The game kicks off at 9:30 p.m. CT.
On March 30, the Fire topped the Colorado Rapids, 2-1, in Peoria, Ill., to advance through the play-in stage process of the Open Cup. San Jose defeated the Portland Timbers, 1-0, in overtime to advance.
In the other remaining MLS play-in match, Sporting Kansas City hosts the New England Revolution on May 25. The winners of the Chicago-San Jose and New England-Kansas City matches advance to the actual Open Cup tournament.
According to the Fire, the team currently is set to have an online audiocast of the play-in match and is still in the process of finalizing details for live online video footage.
Man-U kick-off time changed: Organizers of the World Football Challenge moved the July 23 kick-off time between the Fire and Manchester United at Soldier Field. The game starts at 4 p.m. instead of the originally scheduled 7 p.m. start.
