WESTERN SPRINGS, Ill. – No. 3 Glenbard West stayed undefeated with a 31-3 victory over Lyons in a West Suburban Silver game on Friday night.
The Hilltoppers' Avery Balogh ran for three touchdowns, and the defense intercepted Lyons quarterback Connor Onion three times.
“[Balogh] has been outstanding every game,” Glenbard West coach Chad Hetlet said. “He’s worked his tail off to make himself the player he is, and I’m proud of him.”
Balogh got Glenbard West (3-0) on the board on its first possession, sprinting 41 yards for a touchdown and a 7-0 lead. He followed that with a 39-yard run late in the first quarter to put the Hilltoppers up 14-0.
Leading 17-3 at halftime, the Glenbard West defense pitched a shutout in the second half with three interceptions. Balogh added to his night with a 50-yard touchdown run at the end of the third quarter for a 24-3 lead.
“That team is just better than us. They showed it in every facet of the game,” said Lyons coach Kurt Weinberg, whose team dropped to 1-2. “But I don’t know if there’s any team in the state that’s had a tougher first three games than us (losses to Downers Grove South and Glenbard West and a win over Stevenson).”
