Joliet Catholic's Isaac breaks title-game record

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Joliet Catholic junior Ty Isaac accomplished in a half Saturday what no other running back had in an entire state championship game.

At halftime of Saturday’s Class 5A state championship game, Isaac had rushed for 376 yards to break the previous state title game record of 373 yards, which was set by Dakota’s Jake Apple in the Class 1A state championship on Friday.

Isaac scored four touchdowns on 13 carries in the first half. He averaged 28.9 yards per carry. He had touchdown runs of 71, 63, 56 and 66 yards.

Joliet Catholic led 31-28 at halftime.

Isaac, who was the ESPNChicago.com Offensive Player of the Year, has rushed for 2,490 yards and scored 49 touchdowns this season. He is being recruited by Arizona, Notre Dame and nearly every Big Ten program.

The state record for rushing yards in any game is 593 yards by Austin’s DeAndre Hooper in 1996.
