Ordinarily, the possible retirement of a 33-year-old guard who played 41 games last season wouldn't be a big story, but Mo Williams' decision to hang it up -- as announced by Cleveland Cavaliers GM David Griffin at Monday's media day -- would carry extra weight because of the important role he stood to play on the defending NBA champions.

With Matthew Dellavedova leaving the Cavaliers via sign-and-trade, Williams figured to replace him as Cleveland's backup for Kyrie Irving. Now, the Cavaliers have only rookie second-round pick Kay Felder at the position behind Irving, who's never played more than 75 games in a season during his NBA career.
