Sox call up reliever Marinez from Charlotte

The Chicago White Sox called up pitcher Jhan Marinez from Triple-A Charlotte on Friday.

The 23-year-old Marinez, who was acquired from the Miami Marlins in 2011 as compensation for manager Ozzie Guillen, takes the roster spot of Deunte Heath, who was optioned to Charlotte on Sunday.

Ranked by Baseball America as the White Sox's seventh-best prospect, Marinez is 2-2 with a 3.14 ERA with 47 strikeouts in 26 relief appearances at Charlotte. He comes to the Sox having thrown 13 consecutive scoreless innings over his last six games at Charlotte.

Marinez will be the 11th rookie to appear on the White Sox's 25-man roster this season.
