Rapid Reaction: Orioles 5, Sox 3

Here’s a quick look at the Chicago White Sox's 5-3 loss to the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards on Thursday.

How it happened: Jose Quintana has been one of the bright spots for the Sox this season, but the rookie lefty was roughed up early, yielding five runs before being chased in the fourth. The Sox have lost six of seven on the road, which does not bode well as they head to Detroit for a pivotal three-game series. Zach Britton was dominant for Baltimore. Alexei Ramirez made things interesting with a two-run single in the ninth.

What it means: The Sox's lead atop the Central dropped to 2 1/2 over the Tigers, who face Kansas City Thursday night.

Play of the game: Adam Jones' two-run homer in the third made it 4-1.

Outside the box: At least the Sox were able to get on a plane early, while the Tigers will be flying in late Thursday.

Up next: The White Sox open a three-game series against the second-place Tigers in Detroit. Jake Peavy (9-9, 3.09) faces Doug Fister (7-8, 3.67) in the opener Friday.
