Sale throws simulated game

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Potential Opening Day starter Chris Sale threw a 65-pitch simulated game Wednesday morning against Chicago White Sox minor leaguers.

If Sale stays on this current schedule he would be on pace to pitch Opening Day with five days rest before the April 1 home opener against the Kansas City Royals.

"This was a great day of work for Sale today," pitching coach Don Cooper said.

Sox manager Robin Ventura, whose team had its first off day of the spring on Wednesday, has yet to set a date for naming his starter for the opener. The only other possible candidate would be Jake Peavy, who has already endorsed Sale, who led the Sox with 17 wins last season, as the logical choice.

"I believe the pitcher who has the best stuff on this team is Chris Sale," Peavy said last week. "I think he is deserving."
