Rios has already been out three games due to problem. He was away from Sox spring training March 3-22 playing for team Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic.
Rios said he would try to play in at least one of the Sox exhibition games this weekend in Milwaukee.
“It is not something that we have to worry about,” he said. “It is just going to take time to heal. I felt better this morning but on certain moves I still feel a little pinch there. I had pretty decent progress from yesterday until to today. I feel looser. Let’s see what happens.”
A regiment of electric stimulation and oral medication are part of Rios’ treatment by the team medical and training staff.
Rios had his best season with the White Sox in 2012, hitting .304 with 25 home runs and 91 RBIs. The Sox right fielder was on the leaderboard in five different American League offensive categories last season. He also led all of baseball in batting average increase from 2011 to 2012. (+77 points.)
