How it happened: John Danks threw seven strong innings, allowing just two runs on six hits to get his second win of the season in his eighth start. Often-injured Orioles veteran Brian Roberts hit a solo home run off of Danks in the third inning. It was Roberts’ first home run of the season. Gordon Beckham delivered the Sox’s first run with an RBI single in the fourth and Conor Gillaspie went yard in the sixth inning off Orioles starter Jason Hammel. In the seventh, Alejandro De Aza plated the Sox’s third run on an RBI groundout and Adam Dunn sealed the deal with a two-run blast.
What it means : The Sox stopped their second-longest losing streak of the season at five. Danks won for the first time since June 8.
Outside the box: The White Sox held home run king Chris Davis (31) without a long ball in Game 1 of this series. Dunn has nine home runs and 23 RBIs in his last 21 games. Paul Konerko returned to the lineup at designated hitter after missing six games with back soreness. He was 0-for-4 in his first game since June 23… Entering the game Chicago was 15 games below .500 for the first time since the last day of the 2007 season when they finished 72-90.
