Series preview: Padres at White Sox

CHICAGO -- The National League West has not been too kind to the Chicago White Sox this season and now they have six consecutive games awaiting against the menacing division.

The White Sox are set to play host to the San Diego Padres for three home games this weekend, before they head out for a one-week residency in Southern California when they open with three games against the Los Angeles Dodgers. After the Dodgers series, they return to play in the American League with a series against the Los Angeles Angels.

The White Sox went 3-1 against the cross-town Chicago Cubs this season, but they are 2-4 combined against the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks.

Another issue with series against NL West teams is that those are the times when injuries have materialized. Avisail Garcia was lost for the season in early April when he tried to make a diving catch at Colorado.

When the Diamondbacks were in town earlier this month, not only was Adam Eaton not available because of a hamstring issue, but Jose Abreu's ankle injury became more pronounced. A week later Abreu went on the disabled list, although he is expected to be available for the Dodgers series, which starts Monday.

The White Sox are 4-2 all-time against the Padres, going 2-1 at home in 2003 and 2-1 at San Diego in 2005.
