Eaton begins rehab; Guerra activated

CHICAGO – Adam Eaton will begin a minor league rehabilitation assignment Saturday night with Triple-A Charlotte and could return to the Chicago White Sox as early as the next homestand.

Eaton was diagnosed with a strained right oblique injury on Aug. 9, a few days after he crashed into the fence at U.S. Cellular Field at full speed while chasing an eventual home run. It is Eaton’s second trip to the DL this season after also spending time away in May with a hamstring issue.

Eaton is eligible to come off the DL on Sunday, but general manager Rick Hahn has already said that the team’s center fielder will not return during the current series in New York against the Yankees. The White Sox open a seven-game homestand Tuesday against the Cleveland Indians.

The White Sox also announced Saturday that right-handed reliever Javy Guerra was activated from the bereavement list. He will take the spot of left-hander Eric Surkamp, who was optioned to Charlotte after Friday’s game in New York.
