Preliminary 2011 schedule revealed

CHICAGO – Not that anybody here is suggesting to look ahead to 2011, but a preliminary White Sox schedule was released for next year.

April highlights: The White Sox will open next season on April 1 at Cleveland and will make their only visit to New York to face the Yankees for a four-game series April 25-28. In a new look, the season will open on a Friday. The home opener is Wednesday, April 7 against Tampa Bay. The first 10 home games will be against teams from warm-weather areas (Tampa Bay, Oakland and Anaheim/Los Angeles).

May highlights: The first series of the season against the Twins is a short two-gamer at U.S. Cellular Field from May 3-4. Two three-city trips go down in May, the first from May 6-15 at Seattle, Anaheim and Oakland. The second is May 23-June 1 to Texas, Toronto and Boston. There is an interleague series at home against the Dodgers from May 20-22.

June highlights: The White Sox finally make their first visit to Minnesota from June 14-16. At interleague series at Arizona takes place June 17-19. The Cubs are at U.S. Cellular Field from June 20-22 followed by the Washington Nationals (June 24-26). The White Sox close the month with an interleague series at Colorado (June 28-30)

July highlights: The White Sox are at Wrigley Field from July 1-3. They are at home on the Fourth of July for a game against the Royals. The All-Star Game takes place July 12 at Arizona. The second half starts July 15 with a three-city trip to Detroit, Kansas City and Cleveland.

August highlights: The Yankees visit U.S. Cellular Field for a four-game series Aug. 1-4. The White Sox make their second West Coast trip Aug. 23-28 to Anaheim and Seattle.

September highlights: The White Sox will visit every division city in the final month. They will also play host to every division team except the Twins over the final month. Oddly, the season ends with the only non-division series of the month Aug. 26-28 at home against Toronto. The season will also end on a Wednesday, a departure from the regular Sunday ending.
