Frankie Montas earns Futures Game spot

DETROIT -- Right-handed pitcher Frankie Montas was the only player from the Chicago White Sox's minor league system to be named to the All-Star Futures Game.

Montas, who has a 2.55 ERA in 12 starts at Double-A Birmingham, was named to the World Team roster. Although the U.S. Team roster will not have a player form the White Sox, one of the coaches will be Triple-A Charlotte manager Joel Skinner.

The White Sox acquired Montas from the Boston Red Sox in 2013, in the three-team trade that also netted Avisail Garcia. Jake Peavy went from the White Sox to the Red Sox in that deal.

The Futures Game will take place July 12 at Cincinnati as a kickoff to All-Star Game week festivities. The All-Star Game is scheduled for July 14.
