"I talked to some people with the team this morning," Getz told me at 9 a.m. CT. "At this point, it's been characterized as a rumor."
The White Sox's second-year player was shocked to hear from so many people about the report.
"I've got a bunch of calls already in the last half hour, and at this point I don't know anything about it," Getz said.
Teahen has played all three outfield positions as well as second and third base. The assumption is the deal is in the late talking stages, with nothing consummated at this point.
If Getz is traded, the team's options are to use Teahen at either second, third or the outfield.
Infielder Jayson Nix also is in the mix.
Getz's agent, Bob Garber, said he talked with the White Sox on Thursday morning and they had nothing more to report to him than they did to Getz.
Sources in Kansas City said Teahen had not been told about any trade as of 9 a.m.
