Guillen to attend charity game after all

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Manager Ozzie Guillen has done an about face and will now make the trip to Tucson for a charity game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The March 7 game at the White Sox’s and Diamondbacks’ former spring home is to benefit the Christina Taylor-Green Memorial Fund.

The 9-year-old Green was one of six people killed when a gunman opened fire at a Tucson grocery story on Jan. 8. Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was critically wounded in the shooting.

When the game was originally announced, Guillen said he was going to let his coaches handle the team in that contest. On Monday, though, he said he would be the one to take the squad two hours south on Interstate 10.

“The least we can do is to make sure we show up there,” Guillen said.

Guillen said he would take some, but not necessarily all of the White Sox projected Opening Day starters on the trip.
