Rain limits Peavy's outing to three innings

ARLINGTON, Texas – A lengthy rain delay limited Jake Peavy's outing Tuesday to just three innings.

Pitching for the third time since returning from surgery last summer to reattach his latissimus dorsi, the Chicago White Sox right hander needed 63 pitches to get through his three innings of work. He allowed two runs on five hits with a walk and two strikeouts.

He was coming off a complete game shutout over the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday.

Two separate bands of severe storms passed through the Dallas area before the bottom of the fourth inning, with the first one necessitating tornado warnings and producing golf-ball size hail at The Ballpark in Arlington. The total delay was 2 hours and 58 minutes.

Left-hander Will Ohman took over in the fourth inning.
