Looking for a little championship karma, the White Sox are inviting the Chicago Blackhawks to U.S. Cellular Field on Aug. 27. Nobody can accuse the White Sox of using “Blackhawks Night” to boost attendance. The New York Yankees are in town that day and always draw a crowd.
Not only will the Stanley Cup be in the building, the first 20,000 in attendance will receive a replica trophy of their own. There will be a pregame party, an on-field parade for Blackhawks season-ticket holders and a ceremonial first pitch from a Blackhawks player.
The White Sox have no excuses if they can’t get inspired by having the hockey and baseball champions in their midst. Maybe somebody can see what the New Orleans Saints and Los Angeles Lakers are doing that night and invite them to the party.
